FYI ALL ABOUT FANS
Places to Buy Silks
Google, Esty + Amazon are great sites, simply type in "silk fan veils" and a number of options with pop up
Quality of Fans
Prices with range from 35-300 USD for a pair. Fans that are 35 USD will have thinner bamboo staves, more brittle and with sharper edges. The quality of silk will also not be as nice as well as the way the edges are finished. Nothing is wrong with a pair of fans like this- especially if you are new to dancing with them. They are great to learn with
Fans in the 75-150 USD range will have much thicker well finished bamboo + thinner higher thread count silks.
150-300 USD Fans will usually be hand dyed very high quality silks, they often take much longer to recieve as they are one of a kind made and have the end finished in special shapes for you
Length of Fans
The longer the fans- the more difficult they are to control, I recommend beginners to start out with shorter fans no longer than a 3 foot tail. You can also cut long fans after you have ironed them flat and marked them with a pen.
Best Places to Practice
Open wide spaces with padding for the knees, high ceilings and nothing sharpe or scratchy surrounding you ( cactus plants, dead grass, twigs leaves) turn off ceiling fans as well! A place with little to no wind as wind makes it difficult to direct the silks.
